Autumn skincare

As the weather gets colder and the nights draw in, our skin can sometimes suffer as central heating dries it out and we see less daylight – I know my skin has started to look a bit sluggish and in need of a bit of a boost.

Most of us adjust our skincare with the seasons anyway, using richer moisturisers in the autumn and winter and maybe adding a serum or facial oil into our routines. Here are just a few of my current favourites.

Green People anti-aging facial oil. The first time I tried a facial oil I have to say I had my reservations. After all, the thought of putting oil on your face is enough to send anyone’s skin into a breakout, right? Wrong! This oil from organic brand Green People is so light it just absorbs into your skin making it feel soft, plumped and nourished. With organic rosehip, avocado, almond and vitamin E, it has a gorgeous rose scent which makes application a real treat. I used this morning and evening under my moisturiser to add an extra level of protection, but you could probably get real results using it a couple of times a week.

I also tried combining it with Green People hydrating firming serum, as apparently the two products mixed together make an excellent primer for under make up. I’m a recent convert to primer too, finding it makes my base stay on much longer than if I put it straight over my day cream. When I’m too lazy to use a serum I do really notice the difference in the look and feel of my skin. In the colder months, I definitely need that extra bit of help to stop my skin drying out and looking older.

There’s nothing like a bath to cheer up a cold day and it’s also the perfect way to warm up and have a bit of me time. A friend sent me this gorgeous Elemis Quiet Mind relaxing bath elixir a few months ago and I love using it at the end of a stressful day. It makes loads of creamy bubbles and just smells amazing.

It’s taken me a while to find the right night cream and I think this Korres Wild Rose Overnight Sleeping Facial is just the perfect one for me. Again, it smells gorgeous and has such a nice buttery texture as it goes onto your skin. Sometimes I can find night creams a bit too heavy but this manages to feel rich and light at the same time. I’ve been recommending it to everyone since I discovered it a few months ago thanks to the lovely Vicki at Let’s Talk Beauty.

My hands have taken a bit of a battering recently what with forgetting to use gloves to do the washing up and the cooler weather and change of season. I’m trying to make a conscious effort to use hand cream a couple of times a day and I love this cream from Cow Shed.

I keep it on my bedside table along with my all-time favourite Carmex lip balm. I have a few tubes of this around the house and in my handbag as I find my lips really suffer from dryness all year round. I don’t really wear lipstick so find a quick slick of this is a must to stop my lips from cracking.

Do you change your skincare routine with the seasons? What are your favourite products? I’d love to hear about them in the comments.

Green People very kindly sent me a few items to try but all views are as always my own.

x Julia

I haven’t heard of these before so really interested to hear your thoughts. My skin goes quite dry and dehydrated over the Winter and so keeping it moisturised and looking after it is important! Thanks for sharing 🙂 Jess xx

This sounds lush Julia! I swear by Dove Winter skin for my arms and hands in the cold weather. Helps that it smalls gorgeous too. I’ve literally just ordered myself some goodies from Bare Minerals to try as my skin – particularly around my hair line – is getting very dry very early this year.

Aren’t Green People products the best? They were recommended to me a couple of years ago and have become a staple. If you’re looking for a good hand cream, Clarins is by far the best I’ve ever come across. I really suffer from dry skin and it’s so nice without being greasy.
