Back in isolation…

(null)

The last post I wrote about hospitals was the one where I told you my husband was home and starting to recuperate after his recent spell in intensive care.

A fair bit has happened since then, but I’ve lacked the energy or inclination to write about it as the whole situation has left us both feeling pretty helpless, desperate and flat.

Rog was allowed home from hospital, but his symptoms didn’t improve and within days it was clear he wasn’t well enough to be at home. He was lacking energy, losing weight and still had an upset stomach and increasing pain around his middle.

Once you’re out of hospital though, it’s very hard to get an appointment to see somebody and so followed a frustrating couple of weeks involving many calls to the GP and consultant, a scan, blood transfusion and finally his re-admission to a ward. By that time, we breathed a massive sigh of relief. It had come to a point where I’d been waking in the night, listening for his breath and shaking his arm to see if he was still ok. My anxiety levels couldn’t get much higher, and for our own piece of mind something needed to be done.

So he’s been back on the isolation ward for a week now, and still there are no answers, no change in symptoms and no sign of him coming back home. Plus, it’s half term so we’ve been leaning on family and friends a lot for help with childcare while I visit him for an hour or two each day.

The Rescue Remedy has been at the ready and a life-saving visit from two of my oldest friends has taken some of the tension away. The cup of tea they made me in bed yesterday morning certainly helped – I don’t think that has happened for about two years!

So there isn’t much of an update, but seeing as everyone has been asking I kind of felt I should write. I haven’t got much to report, but I can say that February isn’t really shaping up to be any easier than January. I’ve cried at home, at the hospital, at work, and even during a row with my five-year-old, which he found highly amusing!

I’ve been writing down the good and bad things that have happened, to try to focus a bit more on the good. Here goes!

Bad things

Having to fight to be seen by hospital doctors.
Juggling hospital visits and kids when we had planned to spend half-term in Lanzarote.
Not much progress.

Good things

Help and support from family, friends and work.
Rog’s symptoms not getting any worse.
Chocolate and wine.
Seeing my friends and having a sleepover with their little ones.
The Nutri-Bullet cacao drink my friend made for me (more of that later)
Getting some light relief this weekend as I’m meeting up with some of my best blogger buddies (more on that later too!)

So there you go. Not much to report, just a bit of a moan! Hopefully my next update will be more positive. Have a good weekend everyone.

X Julia

Aaah pet — I hope that the doctors can pinpoint what’s wrong, now he’s back in hospital.

You’re doing SO well. I struggled over the last couple of weeks without my boy but he’s back on form again now and seems to have given the pneumonia it’s marching orders. I’m so sorry you’re having such a rough time. Keeping everything crossed things pick up for you very soon. Sending a big virtual hug. #SundayStars
