Blog party

I’ve been blogging for nearly a year now, and in that time I have learnt so much and made some really good friends along the way. When I started out, I thought writing a blog was a fairly straightforward – you basically wrote a post, made it looked pretty and just hoped someone out there would read it. I didn’t know about the other side of it, the networking, the meeting up with like-minded people, sharing thoughts and ideas along the way. I didn’t know about linkys, blogging conferences or google hangouts (I don’t know much about the latter still, but they sound good!)

So basically there was a steep learning curve in my blogging journey, and a lot of it has been down to a group of bloggers who I’ve been lucky enough to get to know online. I’d only met a few of them in the flesh until last weekend, when we managed to get eight of us all together for a party hosted by Karen who blogs at Mini Travellers. Karen was one of the first bloggers I met, when she ran round to my house last summer in a superwoman style for a pit stop and a chat about blogging. Looking back, it was hilarious as both of us were so new to it all and couldn’t really answer each other’s questions, but united in being newbies together! Karen is on the left on the photo above, followed by Katie from Life on Vista Street, Kate from What Katy Said,  Katie from Mami 2 Five, Sarah from Extraordinary Chaos, me, Jess from Mummy of Boy Girl Twins and Hayley of Hayley from Home

So get a group of bloggers together, add some gorgeous home made tapas (thank you Karen), lots of wine, fab cupcakes and Welsh cakes from the Katies, a bit of gossip (of course) and goodie bags arranged by Sarah (was this actually a warm up for Brit Mums?!) and you have a pretty good night!

It was so good to get together and chat with these ladies who I’d only previously “spoken to” online. And how many nights out do you go on where you get to come home with two new pillows from Slumberdown, some hair care products and a bottle of fake tan? We were kindly sent some goodies to try along with a fab retro-styled fridge from Husky, to keep all our wine and mixers cool throughout the night. If I had the space in my house, an extra fridge would be up there on my list of wants, especially one in reaching distance of the sofa to keep the drinks in!

We also got to try some shampoo and conditioner from Neal and Wolf, a brand which I’d never used before so was really eager to try. The Ritual daily shampoo and conditioner felt really luxurious and left my hair feeling soft and smelling lovely. The shine spray is a hit too and I’ve been using it every day since.

We were all asked if we wanted to try Tanorganics tanning oil, so that is ready for use in my bathroom but I haven’t had a go yet. I’m also looking forward to using the Arnicare bath oil and cooling gel – it’s great to have in for rubbing on tiny bumps and bruises. The 9 Bar Indulge didn’t last long – it’s a power-packer snack with seeds and fruit, just the sort of thing I like to have in my bag for eating on the go. Even better it’s good for me, and probably wouldn’t be stolen by the kids – not that they had the chance to go near this time!

Hopefully this was the first of many of our blogging get togethers. Cheers girls!

X Julia

Oh this is such a lovely post. I’m brand new at blogging and feeling somewhat overwhelmed at all the stuff I still need to learn. It’s heartening to think that perhaps in a year or so I might be actually meeting a group of bloggers and hosting a linky (and discovering what a Google hangout is!)
