Me and Mine April 2016

Me and Mine Sam's birthday

Me and Mine Sam's birthday

The photos for this month’s family portrait were taken a few weeks ago on Sam’s birthday, when the weather was much warmer and brighter than it is today. I’m pretty relieved actually that I was organised enough to get a few pictures of the three of us that day, to save the usual last minute panic for a Me and Mine shot that happens at the end of most months.

My mum took these in our garden just before we left for Sam’s party, which I’m hoping to find time to write about but involved 14 children pottery painting, with a very vague Super Mario theme!

Can you believe my boy is now seven? I know he looks older as he is so tall (4ft 6in, I measure him every birthday), but I still can’t believe so much time has passed since I first became a mum. Who’d have thought that on his seventh birthday, I’d be here on my own with two kids, trying to hold the show together?

Me and Mine April

It only seems a moment since I was in hospital holding him for the very first time, when he pretty much cried for the first hour if his life before falling asleep for about two weeks, as newborns babies do.

April seems to have gone by so quickly but we have packed so much in – like marking Roger’s birthday, taking our first little family of three trip away to North Yorkshire, and training for the Great Birmingham 10k, which I’m running with 20 plus colleagues from the BBC who all worked with Roger (and still work with me). You can read a bit more about how we got on with our training in my post from last week; as we’re a team of journalists and sub editors (aptly named the Substandards) I knew some would be more than happy to write about how they were preparing for the run – or not in some cases.

As the weather turned slightly warmer at the beginning of the month we had our first taste of spring, meaning more time playing out in the garden, warmer trips to the park and our first beach picnic of the year down at Red Rocks. I’m looking forward to more of that in May – and who doesn’t love May, with a bank holiday at either end?

Gorgeous pictures and Sam is so tall! I think my eldest is going to be that way, he has always been much taller than his friends. I hope the training goes well, good luck!

Oh wow he really is tall – which birthday do you think he will have reached by the time he’s taller than you? It looks like a lovely sunny day and perfect for a party – sounds like it was fun!
