It’s nearly the end of the school year and time to start thinking about buying new uniforms and shoes for the return to class in September. I always try to order my son’s school stuff early on in the holidays, to avoid the inevitable back to school panic on August bank holiday weekend.
If your children are anything like mine, you’ll know how important it is to label absolutely everything, from clothes and shoes to books, lunch boxes and school bags. Visiting lost property is a regular occurrence for me as my son so often forgets to bring his jumper or coat home after school, or leaves his hats in the playground or stuffed in his drawer.
I’ve always used the sew-in name labels but to be honest lately have started thinking life is just too short for that, and fancied giving the iron-on ones a go. I was asked to try out these lovely labels from French company Petit Fernand, and the designs are so cute and original I agreed straight away.
The iron-on name labels I chose come in several different colours with a choice of design to go at the side. I let Sam choose and he went for the frog with the huge eyes, robot and pirate pictures and I chose the cherry and baby deer motifs for Florence. I ordered some stick-on name labels for both of them as well, which are really handy for putting on books, pens and drinks bottles for example, so are great not only for school but also for Flo’s days with her childminder too.
I’ve just ironed on my first label into a school shirt, and have to say I was really impressed at how easy it was and also how secure it looks. I remember iron-on labels being made from thin cotton that always frayed and curled up at the edges. Once pressed over the protective paper for just 12 seconds with the iron, these labels look like they have been printed onto the fabric and certainly don’t look like they are going to come off anytime soon.
Petit Fernand labels are washing machine and tumble dryer resistant, and they’d have to be to withstand the regularity of school shirt washing wouldn’t they! As well as iron-on and stick-on name labels, they also offer address labels, personalised drinks bottles and value packs with a combination of all the different label types.
I have to say, I found them really easy to order and they arrived within two days, which is good to know if you are trying to sort your name tags out at the last minute.
You can win £30 worth of credit at Petit Fernand by entering the giveaway at the end of this post. It is open for 10 days from Monday 6 July. Good luck!
x Julia

July 14, 2015 at 11:14 pmyep I remember having them for my uniform in high school – what was really bad though was we were quite poor so my mum had to get some of my uniform second hand especially the blazer and tie which both had someone elses name in them – we couldnt get the iron on labels out no matter what so my mum ended up ironing my labels on top of them
