Four favourite smoothie recipes for kids

Banana, milk, oats and honey smoothie

All this smoothie making is all well and good if you’re into making green juice, mixing up chia seeds and curly kale, but will that get your little ones asking for more? In my experience, probably not. My children both like helping to make drinks in my Nutri-Bullet, but they usually involve putting in lots of fruit and not much else.

When I’ve asked them to try my avocado, spinach and banana one, they take one look at the colour and shake their heads.

So this week I’ve spent a bit of time looking for child-friendly smoothie recipes which are packed with goodness too. When you mix up pure fruit, most of the goodness is lost and you’re left with a sugary drink – but blend it with some veg, protein and a few superfoods, and you could be getting back on the right track.

Blueberry, Avocado and Greek Yogurt is my personal favourite. It tastes so rich and creamy, partly down to the avocado, and feels just so good for you but a little bit naughty too. I added a sliced banana, some milk, a shake of cinnamon and a squeeze of honey. I have to say that you can’t taste the avocado at all, so as long as you make it when the kids aren’t looking, they won’t suspect thing!

Next up is the Banana, Milk, Oats and Honey. Such a nice combination, it’s a great one for breakfast time or for a snack between meals. It’s really rich and filling.

Almond Milk, Raw Cacao, Peanut Butter and Honey. This is the sweetest smoothie by far and if I’m honest, more than a little sweet for me. Sam and Florence both loved it though, and it didn’t last long at all. I’m happy that it’s full of goodness too, as raw cacao is a powerful antioxidant and they are getting lots of protein from the peanuts.

The Fruit Salad smoothie is full of fruit but some tasty veggies too. Chop up some orange, pineapple, cucumber, carrot, apple and grapes, add a little water and some ice and blend. You’re left with a really fresh-tasting drink.

We’ve tried all four of these recipes and Sam and I graded them in order of preference. Sam gave them all a 10/10, but said if pushed he would rank them peanut butter first, then banana milk, blueberry and fruit salad.

Have you got any favourites?

I’m so glad you’ve done this post as I’ve just ordered a Nutri-Bullet and have no idea what to put in it when it arrives. This seems like a good start as most of the suggested recipes I’ve looked at are full of things I’ve never even heard of! I’ll let you know how it goes. x

These all look yummy. I especially like the sound of the Blueberry, Avacado and Greek Yoghurt and the Fruit Salad smoothies. They sound gorgeous. And with just enough sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth. I had a cheap and nasty juicer. But it broke and it was such a hassle that I barely used it. I would love a Nutri Bullet. Maybe I can persuade someone to buy it for me as a push present! Hugs Lucy xxxx

These all sound fabulous – but I’m particularly taken with the blueberry one. Little Miss isn;t overly keep on fruit that isn;t apples or banana so maybe we should give a few of these a try!
    Great post xXx

YUM!!!! All these sound delicious, I’m a big fan of smoothies and will definitely be giving these a go. I love anything with milk, yogurt and honey. This morning I made one with a banana, frozen berries, milk, yogurt, honey, spinach and chia seeds (both for iron) and it was really nice!! xx
