Decorating the bedroom for our second child was a bit of a rush job to say the least – we had moved Sam into the spare room but hadn’t finished repainting his old one when my husband fell ill and home decor was the last thing on our minds. I was seven months pregnant with Florence then, but not having found out whether she was a boy or a girl I was planning on keeping the room white and accessorising with a few bright prints until I could personalise the space a bit more.
This is exactly what we did before Sam was born, and fits in with our home style as pretty much all of the inside of our house is painted white with lots of framed prints in every room. There is one wall in Sam’s room which is painted pale blue as an accent to the white, but honestly it is so pale if you didn’t know it was there you would probably just think it was white on first glance!
Florence will be two next month and I thought it was time to give her room a bit of an update. I’ve started with a new pair of curtains to replace the ones she inherited from her brother, and a few accessories to freshen things up.
I took inspiration from the so many Instagram accounts I follow that feature gorgeous kids’ interiors, one of my favourites being Petite Vintage Interiors. I’m not sure how this happened but a lot of my favourite interiors talents on Instagram are based in Australia, and Petite Vintage is no different. I just love all the clean lines and fresh colours they use, and it fits in with my love of splashes of colour on white backgrounds.
I also love browsing and buying from This Modern Life, a UK online interiors store full of stylish prints and home accessories. I bought a few Farg and Form items from here in the past, like their cloud print lampshade and a gorgeous yellow baby blanket.
For Florence’s room, I already had their bear print (which sadly I can’t see on their site now so may have been discontinued) and a couple of prints which I bought for Sam when he was first born. I’ve now added the hand painted name print we bought at Christmas from Made By Nell at our local festive extravaganza the Fabulous Frost Fair, and a framed print from Welsh children’s book Rala Rwdins.
After much deliberation, I plumped for some blackout curtains from the John Lewis Little Home range which are fresh-looking white with a tiny mint green, peach and pink flower print. I hung them this week, only losing the string from the header tape once along the way, and they instantly made the room feel brighter and more girlie, but without being too sugar-coated.
I’ve refreshed the bunting above her cot with some red floral and pink gingham, which I think was a gift when Flo was first born but sadly I can’t remember where or who it was from, and added a mint green storage basket which I ordered from John Lewis along with the curtains.
I’m pleased with the overall result, and it just shows that by making a few quick adjustments it’s easy to change up a neutral room fairly easily.
I’ve been pinning ideas to my Pinterest board which you can see here.

Where do you find home decor inspiration from? I’d love to know. Please feel free to share in the comments below.

June 27, 2015 at 9:12 amYou’ve inspired me to start pinning girls bedroom ideas, it was funny to come across this post today because I was deciding today between a mint or white side table for my daughters bedroom, her room will be mostly pink, we are moving early next year once our new house is built and I’ve been getting inspired to do my children’s rooms differently. Thanks for inspiring me. I love those curtains and the bunting you chose.

July 1, 2015 at 7:00 pmGORGEOUS! What a beautiful room — and not too ‘babyish’ either. I love a child’s room that can grow with them — no point having something that they’re going to tire of as soon as their out of the baby stage. I love the bear print the most — just lovely. Thanks so much for linking up with #HomeEtc — hope to see you again next week! x

July 2, 2015 at 9:10 pmFlorence’s room is lovely. I love the clean appearance that white gives to a room. Then you can add splashes of colour. Those curtains are so pretty and perfect for a little girl’s room. I can’t wait until we move and I can decorate Little Miss H’s room properly. You have inspired me. Hugs Mrs H xxxx
