So this morning hasn’t gone terrifically to plan. It’s my day off, so as usual I have designs on ticking off lots of things from my to do list. But if you’re a parent to a small child and you have a day off work, it doesn’t at all mean you’re sat at home twiddling your thumbs with nothing to do. Normal things like putting a wash on, tidying the house or even getting yourself dressed take far longer than they otherwise would.
It’s 11.30 and so far I’ve been puked on, changed my clothes once and my baby gal’s three times; cleaned the rug after this sick episode – which I’m hoping was caused only by over-zealous eating of a cereal bar; put baby gal to bed, only to have the postman banging on the letterbox and the nice men from the National Grid digging up the road outside her window; and spent an hour trying to order a washing machine from a usually faultless department store, but in this case the site kept crashing and each time I refreshed the delivery slot I wanted had been taken. Arghh! Small things, first world problems I know, but annoying nonetheless.
I’ve come out to the supermarket to make the most of the last part of baby gal’s sleep (don’t worry, my husband’s at home) and a bit of stress-busting loud music has gone some way to sorting me out. It got me thinking of my favourite tunes to dispel minor rage, and I came up with this list. After a quick poll on Facebook, my friends have added some of their own too so I’ve kind of mixed them all in together.
Have you got any to add?
X Julia
David Bowie – Changes
McAlmont and Butler – Yes
ACDC – Whole Lotta Rosie
Florence and the Machine – Shake it Out
Haim – If I Could Change Your Mind
Pharrell Williams – Happy

Kelis – I Hate You So Much Right Now
Wilson Picket – Land of 1,000 Dances

December 13, 2014 at 11:45 pmThat sounds like an awful day. I hope your baby girl is better now. I would definitely agree with David Bowie’s Changes. I would also add Under Pressure, Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run and Thunder Road and anything by The divine comedy is guaranteed to cheer me up. Thanks for linking up with #SundaysStars.
