A garage to playroom conversion

Close up of toys in playroom

Just over three months after moving into our new house and work has begun to convert our extremely cold garage – currently masquerading as a playroom – into a warm, useable room.

The house is only a few years old and when it was built, the single garage was temporarily converted into the sales office for the new complex of homes. It had french doors where the garage door should have been, and a laminate floor was laid straight over the concrete.

When I bought it, it was in pretty much the same state apart from the french doors had gone and the garage door was back on. Behind the garage door was a plasterboard wall, making it look like a garage from the outside but a room from the inside. I loved the thought of having an extra room to use for the kids, or when they get older as a second sitting room or even dining room, but knew it needed some work.

Even in the summer you’d go in there and it was cold, and once the autumn came you couldn’t go in there without a thick jumper and slippers on. The past few weeks it has been ridiculously cold in there, to the point where when the door from the garage to the kitchen is open you can feel a draught all through the house.

Luckily work has started now and in a few weeks’ time hopefully we will have a fully insulated, warm playroom, all ready for the fun part – the reorganising and the decorating!

I have spent months pinning cool

Very exciting. I so desperately wish we had a playroom/extra room downstairs. When we moved in that was the plan but we now think we will move in the near future meaning we aren’t going to bother extending. Can’t wait to see the finished article!

We have been considering the same, we just don’t have the room inside for somewhere for the girls to do their art projects and to display their art work. I would love to convert our garage space into an art studio for them and also maybe a space with some bean bags and a lego building space. We’ll see!

I would love a playroom for the kids, a garage conversion is a perfect space for that as well. It is a perfect space to have fun with the interiors as well!

Really exciting!! I wish we had room for a separate playroom. *If* we manage to ever do our kitchen extension, the snug will be a dedicated playroom. Cannot WAIT for that to happen!!! SO nice to be able to shut the toys away!!! 🙂 Can’t wait to see the end result 🙂 Cx #HomeEtc

Our garage was also converted into our playroom when the kids came along. Prior to that it housed our rather large desktop computer and the fridge freezer….. oh how life has changed. I love having a seperate room for all the toys, and this year we totally redid it to a more grown up playroom. Think grey walls and lots of Kallax units from good old Ikea. Can’t wait to see it when it is finished x
