Me and Mine – A Portrait for June

Me and Mine

Last month I joined in for the first time with the Me and Mine project, where you share a family portrait at the end of each month. We had some beautiful photographs taken by our friend and photographer Colin McPherson, and I felt I wanted to share them on my blog.

This month, our photograph is very different! It was taken in the back garden with my camera set up on the timer, and we only managed to get three shots as Sam and Florence were not very impressed by the whole thing and Roger wasn’t very comfortable on the bench. I wondered whether I should use these photos as you can see how Rog has lost weight from last month, and it makes me sad to see him looking less well.

I have stopped taking photos of us together as he hasn’t been feeling good and I didn’t think it was fair. But I don’t want to look back at these times and wish we had more images to look at, to remind us all of the special weeks we spent at home this summer. Over the weekend, my husband was at home from the hospice and I thought it would be a good chance to take a few photos while we were feeling more relaxed. I know how hard it is to get a family photo in the best circumstances so I’m not surprised at all that Florrie isn’t even looking at the camera in one of these!

This is us though, for better or for worse.

x Julia

Oh love, these are beautiful photos and ones your children will cherish in the future. I know Rog looks very poorly and was uncomfortable, but you all look so happy just to be together. Cherish these moments xxx

For better or worse is right Julia, always and forever. The love and devotion you and Rog have for each other leaps out of these pictures before anything else. I know you struggled to decide whether to post these shots but I’m so glad you did. Cherish each day, each memory, each photo. You’re such an amazing family xxx

Cherish every day and so glad you took, and published these photos. I love the hand holding and the smiles. You clearly adore each other and that is so obvious from these photos. I know Rog looks thinner than last month but he is still loving his time with you all. Big loves xxx

Oh Julia, I can understand why you wondered about sharing them. Roger looks so poorly my heart breaks. These are precious times though and you were right to take the photos as you will want to remember him as his smiley self and he really is happy here surrounded by his favourite people. Lots of love xxxx

Even though Rog was uncomfortable, you can see how much he loves you all. The way his hand rests on your lap. Also, I can see how much you love him. You all look beautiful (and I mean that) and these are moments to capture and cherish. For better for worse is the perfect way to sum it all up. Beautiful writing yet again xxxxx

A beautiful photo lovely. I can understand your reticence, but what I see between you and Rog is love and devotion – and the children being children. A very precious memory. I know from my time with Hugo photos are wonderful, invaluable, yet never enough xxx

For better, for worse. Photos evoke so many memoirs; I scroll through my camera roll and instantly can tell you the date my mom was diagnosed but all these photos tell a story and a moment in your life. Treasure them – and I love that Florrie is looking the other way – a typical family portrait hey!!!

Rog looks so frail here but the love radiates from you both.
