Skincare for babies – Aveeno on test

(null)

Both my children have suffered with dry skin and patches of eczema; my son grew out of it by the time he was three but my daughter, at 18 months, quite often gets itchy, red patches concentrated in the creases behind her knees and on her elbows.

We’ve tried several remedies – including many types of cream, taking oatmeal baths and changing our washing powder – but I’m always interested in trying something new, so when I was asked if I’d like to try some Aveeno products, I jumped at the chance.

We were sent the body lotion, cream and bath and shower oil to try, and after a few weeks of use this is what I’ve found.

My favourite product was the bath and shower oil. Added to the bath, the honey-coloured liquid turns white to create the illusion of a milky-coloured bath. My five-year-old son loved this, and liked to see how his hand disappeared beneath the cloudy water. All Aveeno products contain finely milled oatmeal, known to moisturise, soothe and protect the skin. This definitely soothed my daughter’s skin, and I noticed with regular use her skin became less sore and angry.

The body lotion is a great product too, perfect for the whole family. I found it brilliant as a daily moisturiser for myself. It’s really easily absorbed and doesn’t have a strong fragrance, so perfect for everyday use. I don’t think it’s rich enough to ease my daughter’s really dry patches, but it’s a lovely top-up to keep the rest of her body soft and smooth.

I found the moisturising cream works well on the dry patches, but I like using it the most as a hand cream. Again, it’s really easily absorbed and not greasy at all. Whenever I put some on, baby gal has to have a go too! She isn’t at all worried about having cream put on, and even likes to rub it in herself. I was sent a lovely little book from Aveeno, which helps explain to little ones about the importance of rubbing in moisturiser.

My daughter is a bit young for this, but we did like looking at the pictures together. I can see how it would help older children who may not like having so much cream applied. You can download it online here.

I noticed one of my friends used this on her children and it looked good. I like that it is milky in the bath and it does sound very soothing. All three of my boys have eczema and they are prescribed cream but I think I’ll try the bath oil. I quite like that everyone can use it too! xx
