I’m not sure these photos show my best look but you know, seeing as it’s halloween I’ll forego any idea that I’m any good at creative make-up and just go for it!
We’ve had loads of opportunities for a Me and Mine portrait this month; my cousin was visiting from Australia with her husband and we had lots of get togethers, the kids and I have had several days out over half term and throughout the month, and we’ve managed to get a quick snap of the three of us together in a few different locations.
Tradition has it though that because it’s halloween our October portrait has to involve fancy dress, so I’m using these pictures from our trip to the pumpkin scare trail in our local woods this weekend.
My kids have always loved this time of year and the whole dressing up and face painting thing. My sister came over with her three children – an eight-year-old daughter and seven-year-old twins – and they all got going with painting each others’ faces, with varying degrees of success! We thought we’d join in as well but looking at these photos what I had hoped would look like a ‘broken doll’ (white face, black cracks and pink lips) just looks a bit more like a white face with added drawn-on wrinkles!
We walked up to the woods at about 5pm on Saturday, joining lots of other families to walk through the trees doing activities like apple bobbing and cauldron stirring as we went.
It was a really lovely atmosphere and great to bump into so many other friends that we know from school and even from my school days, as we now live back in my hometown.
Tonight we’ll be having a bit of a party as usual and heading out trick-or-treating, which will be a laugh but given how this weather has turned over the past few days, absolutely freezing!
October has sped by and all in all it’s been a good month. I’ve loved spending time with my cousin, and am now up for booking a trip over to stay with her in Melbourne as soon as I can. I went over in my early 20s but would love to take Sam and Flo over for an adventure.
Now they are back at school after half-term I’m hoping to get more of a routine going, last term with Flo just starting out it didn’t seem to settle down, but now I’ll hopefully be able to use the two days I’m not at work to get on with some writing, keeping fit (I’m starting a course of personal training sessions today, eek!) and generally trying to get myself organised for the other manic days of the week.
I have a few things to look forward to in November and am kind of trying not to think about Christmas at this stage. First things first and all that. Anyway, how was your month?
x Julia
PS If you’d like to see how our family has changed in the more than two years since we have been doing these photos, you can have a peek at the Me and Mine section of my blog.
This post is linked up with the Me and Mine project – hosted by Dear Beautiful, Bump to Baby, Capture By Lucy, Let’s Talk Mommy, Mummy Daddy Me and Tigerlilly Quinn and Our Life As We See It – where you take a photograph a month of your family all together.

November 1, 2017 at 11:42 pmThese are lovely pictures! It’s so much fun dressing up for Halloween 🙂 Good luck with the personal training sessions! My husband trains with a personal trainer too and they really do help you develop, much more intense and quicker than if you just go to the gym yourself. #meandminew
