That difficult second album

(null)

Where I have two or three albums full of my son’s baby photos, all lovingly compiled and correctly captioned, my daughter is lucky to even have a photo printed out and stuck to the fridge door.

It isn’t that I don’t have any – I take hundreds – it’s just that I’ve never managed to find the time to make them into a keepsake like I did with her brother’s.

Reading this week how by not printing our photos out we risk losing them forever has reminded me that I really should get going on the baby gal photo albums.

Google vice-president Vint Cerf is warning us that by storing our photos on hard drives, we may end up losing them as computer hardware becomes out of date and obsolete.

I can easily imagine that happening, as I have so many photos that I’d hate to lose stored on my phone and iPad. I’m definitely going to add making my daughter an album to my to do list.

To help remind me, I’m sharing one of my favourite photos of her as a baby. I love it because she is being held by her dad, who was in hospital at the time but allowed home for the afternoon for some much-needed family time.

Have you got round to making albums for your children? Or do you rely on storing images on the computer? I’d love to know – I need some second album-making inspiration!

X Julia

Yes, I must admit, its one of the things that seems to always be at the bottom of the ‘to do’ list. Must make an effort to print a load out now. I can’t remember the last time I had photos printed actually- oh dear! We were the same with videoing. The first child has disc after disc of footage, whilst the second has hardly any :/ The more children that come along, the more hectic life seems to get and the conscious recording of events seems to get missed.

That is a lovely photo of your little one. She even seems to be looking at camera. Precious x

Awwww look at that picture! Cute. I haven’t got any in albums as they take up too much room – however a few of the very precious ones is a good idea. Jess xx #mycapturedmoment

I worry about this too, all our photos are electronic and although we have multiple copies, the media becoming obsolete is a worry. I guess that we just need to keep backing up on to each new type of storage 🙂 And actually printing some out! #mycapturedmoment

Oh my gosh how gorgeous. But yes I know exactly what you mean, finding the time to do things like that when you have more than one child is nigh on impossible. x

Such a sweet photo, I love how she is looking up to her dad.

I’m rubbish at printing out photos, but have uploaded them all to photo box so if a hard drive went anywhere I would still have access to the photos, I really need to get them made into a photo book!

Great post and SO true!! We create Photobox books with all our favourite pics! We’ve got 7 or 8 of them now — 3 or 4 of festival weekends and a few from holidays. Starting to build up a little library!

As yet, we haven’t compiled albums for the boys, but we’ll get around to it this year.

They’re such good quality too. We always buy the A4 hardback ones and they’re fab! Easy to make and as they’re fully printed, it means that you don’t have to worry about your photos falling out!! X #MyCapturedMoment

I rely far too much on technology. We were getting photobooks made each month but have fallen behind by a few months. Must get back on that.

Gorgeous photo, hope Rog is feeling better soon.

The Mother says – I LOVE photos and I am dreadful for nipping into the photo shop and printing them off and them framing them and hanging them everywhere around the house. No room escapes! My OH reckons it’s a way out of getting out of decorating! At last count I had 150+ framed photos downstairs alone. I love having them all to look at :0 #mycapturedmoment

My fist daughters album is full to the brim, my second daughters however is not even half full. I have lots on disks and stored on my computer. Its one of those things I keep meaning to do – but don’t get the time.

A sweet moment captured. I am storing some of my photos on a drive and some are in cloud. Hopefully before the drive becomes obsolete I can transfer them to a more modern storage disk. #mysundayphoto / #mycapturedmoment

I’m really glad you brought this up, I hadn’t ever really thought about it but you’re right everything could be lost. I have thousands of photos of my soson but they’re all on my phone/computer/extetnal hardrive. I maybe have half a dozen printed. I need to bump this up to the top of my ‘to do’ list. #mysundayphoto

    Lovely photo 🙂
This is something I keep thinking about at the moment, I have photo albums for my eldest daughter but I haven’t got round to printing photos since having my youngest, I store everything on my phone and computer and my partner (who works in I.T) keeps telling me to back everything up! Really need to get round to doing this and printing some photos off, always lovely to look through photo albums too! 🙂 x

I do Project Life, google it it is great!! I print off photos all the time- not just the best ones but also selfies etc… and they go in one album. It works in chronological order so not just an album for this and an album for that. xx

I am so guilty of taken thousands of photos of my children and then never printing them off. Are family keep complaining they have no photos of my little ones. Then two weeks ago my iphone broke and all my sons newborn photos were on and they were not backed up anywhere, i was in tears. Luckily we managed to get them off onto the laptop and i have since printed them all out . xx
