Our first Me and Mine photo – May 2015
Last May, on the first weekend when Roger was well enough to come home from the hospice, we had some family photographs taken by a friend. I wanted to make sure we had some pictures of the four of us that we could look back on, and see there were moments of happiness when life was so tough, remember what we looked like as a full family.
The photos show us sitting on the sofa at home – smiling, laughing and just being us. There is no denying that Roger looks unwell, but compared to the family photos we took in the coming months he looks radiant.
These photographs gave me the idea to join in with a photography project called Me and Mine. The idea behind this is to take a photograph of your family on the last day of every month, as a prompt really to make sure you remember to capture not just what’s in front of you but what your family looked like at that time.
Well I’ve been doing this for a year now, so I thought I’d group them together in a post to show our year as a family. A family of four, to a family of three after Roger passed away last July.
I’ve linked the post for each photo underneath each one, so if you’d like to have a read about what we were up to on any given month then you can.
Some of them are photos I love, some break my heart, particularly the June one where Rog was in so much pain but determined to be in the photo, and July’s, which was taken six days before he died.
All of them are us, how we were, on a day every month in the past year.
x Julia

June 25, 2016 at 9:49 amBeautiful Photos! Memory’s mean so much.
I need to make sure I take photos of us all together, My partner has just been diagnosed aged 44, and between us we have 4 children ranging from 2-18. We may have a good outcome still, (everything is crossed) However I have never been so terrified in my life X

June 26, 2016 at 6:47 pmIt must have been so hard for you to continue in this project when Roger passed away, and you have my utmost respect for doing so Julia. These are all beautiful pictures for you and the children to treasure always. I love the one in May which I presume was taken at Geronimo. It looks like Sam is giving a cheeky wink to the camera x
